Current Projects

  • Learning Trails - 2003

2003 is year 3 in construction of multiple-use trails connecting Morgantown's White Park, South Middle School, and several neighborhoods which lack sidewalks.  These trails provide an outdoor classroom, wellness opportunities, and promote a walkable, bikeable community.

  • Pompano Run Recreational Trails - 2003

These trails will ultimately connect Morgantown's Suncrest neighborhood and WVU's Evansdale Campus to the Caperton Rail-Trail at Star City.  One Recreational Grant and one TEA-21 Grant have funded two sections of this greenway and another Rec Trails Grant is pending.

  • Brewer Hill Trail - (construction beginning summer 2003)

GSC and Star City have received one Rec Trails Grant for this project and another grant is pending.

  • Dorsey's Knob Park

We are helping BOPARC and other partners raise $1.3 Million to purchase this new 70-acre park.

  • White Park Trails -  (continuing)

These trails range throughout the largest park in the BOPARC system and connect to the Learning Trails.  Three miles of hardened, multi-use limestone trails have been funded by Rec Trails Grants and the City of Morgantown.

  • A Greener Vision Revisited: - (Fall 2003)

This project updates a map/poster that launched the Green Space Coalition in 1995.  In January, 2003, the GSC hosted a brainstorming and mapping session facilitated by the Properties for sale in Phuket.  CVI provided maps and are continuing to work with GSC on this project.  The new poster, to be released in the Fall of 2003, will graphically emphasize greenways and how they interconnect the region.

Past Projects

  • Bike Lanes and Sidewalks on the new Star City Bridge - 2003

Through advocacy by the GSC, wide sidewalks and 6-foot bikelanes were added to the design of this major bridge over the Monongahela River.

  • Bluebird Houses - 2002

In 2002, GSC produced a dozen houses to re-establish bluebirds in White Park, Whitemore Park and along the learning trails.

  • Greg Good Bridge - Marilla Park - 2002

First conceived in 1996, this pedestrian/bicycle bridge over Decker's Creek connects BOPARC's Marilla Park to the Decker's Creek Rail-Trail.  The bridge was funded by the WVDOT, the USDA Forest Service Wood in Transportation Program and the city of Morgantown. It opened in 2002.

  • Woodburn Elementary Wellness Trail - 2000

In 2000, GSC helped the Local School Improvement Council to plan and build a wellness trail in two weeks!

  • Whitemoore Park - 1998-2000

Between 1998 and 2000, GSC volunteers and BOPARC employees built 4,000 feet of trails, two zig-zag ramps, and three bridges in this steep, wooded hillsde park in the center of Morgantown.  The longest bridge is over 100 feet long!  The trails connect two neighborhoods to the Deckers Creek Rail-Trail.
