April 4 - West Virginia Raptor Rehab Benefit Show Enjoy a day outside and then dine at the WV Brewing Company. Come during dinner hours and meet a red-tailed hawk and great horned owl. Stay for a night of great local music. Raffle prizes donated by area merchants. All proceeds go to help feed and house injured birds of prey treated at the WV Raptor Rehabilitation Center. April 8 through May 9 SPRING EARLY MORNING BIRD WALKS Mountaineer Chapter of the Audubon Society. Birders meet at the WVU Core Arboretum parking lot at 7:15 a.m. each Tuesday and Friday from April 8 through May 9. April 12 - Morgantown Arbor Day Celebration Plant trees with the Morgantown Tree Board and join the Arbor Day Celebration from 10 am - 2 pm in Downtown Morgantown. April 27 - Climbing Area Restoration COOPERS ROCK: : Join rock climbers and others who love the rocky areas at Coopers Rock State Forest to restore heavily impacted areas. Trails will be narrowed, unnecessary trails blocked off, enclosures built to protect vegetation, and exposed tree roots covered, both below and on top of the cliffs. June 7 - Hemlock Trail Extended Hike Enjoy National Trails Day at Coopers Rock State Forest, Saturday 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. Meet at the Hemlock Trailhead, 2 1/2 miles East of the I-68 Coopers Rock exit on Rt. 73. Moderately strenuous 7-mile hike features 300+ year-old hemlock trees, beautiful streams, and lots of rhododendron. Wear waterproof hiking boots, for stream crossings. June 14 - Lower Cheat Canyon Rafting Family Class Whitewater: a unique combination of moderate Class III rapids and a pleasant float past the Cooper's Rock overlook to Cheat Lake. This fundraising trip will be accompanied by a naturalist. Trip fee is $55 with half of the fee going to protect this unique area.
